During this trying economy and new school year many young students are having difficulty obtaining school supplies and books. On September the 14th UDC’s USGA presented “Books for Burgers”, a special event that allowed students, family and friends free food for every book donated. This event was inspire by another, Family Day, and because of its high success USGA utilized those same methods, like bringing family together to experience UDC and to help out our community. Ms. Beck stated, ” great opportunity to show the community Udc’s commitment to education”.

Many parents who attended enjoyed that their children were taught the importance of literacy and giving back at such a young age. Tia Purpis, a former Udc student, loved that her daughter, Najae a student from Dc Preparatory ,volunteered that day to help out with the setting up of the event and managing the books. ” I think this is awesome! My children brought a box full of books. Udc should have more events like “Books for Burgers”. Didn’t have it when I attended”, said Purpis. Guest were served by Coco, founder of Guist Family Catering, as well as ice cones and cotton candy. The children were entertained by an air castle provided for them. All in all the event was a success.A great amount of books were donated and will be disrupted to local students around the area.
