Elevator Outrage

Motionless Elevators in Building 41
Why are the elevators never working? Whether you are coming out of the humid, sticky heat or the wet, windy frost, students are welcomed by a noisy crowd hovering the elevator lobby only to be discouraged from going to class after witnessing all the elevators out of commission. Instead, we stampede up and down the steps like a herd of bulls. Imagine having class on the fourth floor or going to the library to print something for class. You would have to stop at every floor just to breathe, so that you don’t die of exhaustion from walking at a brisk pace, trying to protect yourself from being trampled in the crowd.
All of this just to make sure you’re able to raise your hand when the teacher takes attendance. Granted, the elevators do work for weeks at a time during the semester, but they’ve been inconsistent at best. And yes, many of us are young, but let’s set aside those of us who are fine getting the extra exercise or even those of us who need it. Let’s consider the people who are disabled or injured, those individuals who really depend on the elevators to get to class. It is the university’s duty to accommodate the disabled and it would be generous for the to provide amenities like elevators for people with even temporary injuries. Unfortunately, if you are in building 41 carve out a few extra minutes to get to class and plan to take the stairs because the elevators have a mind of their own.
